While not every home has an indoor swimming pool, if you do have one then you want it to be an inviting space for leisure and exercise.
Prior to refurbishment, the swimming pool room was dark and gloomy, with little natural light. Vision designed the perfect solution, to remove the existing solid pitched lantern roof with a large flat glass section, to allow natural light to flood in. At the same time we reviewed the lighting design and insulation and proposed ways of making improvements.
Replacing the lantern roof was no mean feat and presented several major challenges. Critically, the steel work in the original roof was out of square by 70mm, which meant we had to make the roof light aperture square before it could receive the new glass.
Once this was rectified, the installation of the new glass sections could commence. This required detailed planning and extreme care, as the oversized glass sections had to be craned over the front of the house into place. Our team had to take in to consideration the weather – mostly the wind speed as the panels could easily become uncontrollable if they started to sway.
There was a further challenge as the roof was warm, with a large cavity between the skins. This caused issues as the movement led to cracking in the new ceiling. However, we were able to solve this using a unique semi-flexible plaster.
While the roof work was underway, we had the chance to increase the insulation levels with in the roof whist still allowing the airflow a warm roof requires.
In addition, we installed a new lighting design with 5 new lighting circuits, new light fittings and a lighting feature above the hot tub. All lighting is controlled via Lutron and Control 4.
The final touches included new sliding doors to the patio, redecorating the whole of the interior, including walls and ceiling, and carefully restoring the original stone tile flooring back to its original glory.
Taking around three months to complete the Vision team responded admirably to the challenges of the project and the unforeseen additional issue post-installation which were tackled efficiently. The result of the new glass roof and other work carried out is a superbly welcoming space filled with light, which is now enjoyed on a regular basis by the family.
